Client Overview
A global regenerative medicine CDMO helps OEM partners design, develop, and manufacture customized biomaterial solutions for specialized surgical needs. The company supports clinical areas including sports medicine and orthopedics, plastic and reconstructive surgery, neuro/spine, and cardiac care. With operations across the U.S., Europe, and New Zealand, it serves life sciences organizations through regulated development and manufacturing programs.
Their work spans biomaterials, biologics, implants, quality, manufacturing, and supply chain operations, supported by cross-functional teams across global facilities.
Challenges
As operations scaled, the company's fragmented data environment made it harder to manage reporting, visibility, and compliance readiness.
Fragmented data across systems and documents
Data spread across SAP, NetSuite, ADP, T-Track, SmartSolve, SharePoint, OneDrive, CSVs, scanned documents, PDFs, and manual inputs, with no shared data model.
Manual reporting workflows
Teams relied on spreadsheets, extracts, and reconciliation to prepare reports, slowing reporting cycles and delaying access to trusted business insights.
Governance, compliance, and AI readiness gaps
Departments used separate KPI logic while lineage, access controls, and certification workflows were inconsistent, limiting compliance readiness and future AI use cases.
Solution
Simform built a Microsoft Fabric-based data platform to centralize enterprise data, standardize reporting logic, strengthen governance, and support future AI workflows.
Microsoft Fabric estate with OneLake
Designed Microsoft Fabric and OneLake as the central data layer for operational, financial, quality, workforce, and supply chain data, consolidating diverse enterprise sources into one scalable Fabric estate, as a single source of truth.
Governed pipelines and medallion architecture
Built repeatable ingestion and transformation pipelines using Fabric Data Factory, Dataflow Gen2, Fabric Notebooks, and On-prem Data Gateway, with Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers for traceability, curation, and business-ready data products.
Semantic model and Power BI dashboards
Developed a 20 GB enterprise semantic model and migrated reporting to Power BI on Microsoft Fabric, enabling nearly 30 dashboards across plant performance, quality, finance, workforce, and supply chain reporting.
Security, compliance, and AI enablement
Configured Microsoft Purview, Azure Key Vault, and certification controls to support FDA/ISO readiness, while connecting Fabric Data Agent and ChatRTI to approved datasets and enterprise knowledge sources.
Business Impact
The Microsoft Fabric platform helped the CDMO turn scattered enterprise data into trusted reporting and analytics outputs while strengthening compliance and AI readiness.
Lower manual reporting effort
Reduced manual reporting effort by 50%, helping teams spend less time on preparation and more time on business review.
Stronger compliance-ready reporting
Standardized governance controls and certified datasets to support FDA/ISO readiness and improve trust in regulated reporting.
Ready for AI-led workflows
Established a controlled data foundation for conversational analytics, intelligent document access, and future workflow automation.
